Ambria for Alderman

Beginning in Summer 2021 I was the Art Director for Ambria Taylor’s Aldermanic Campaign for the 11th ward of Chicago. We worked to create a vibrant grassroots campaign that was like nothing anyone had seen. I tapped into analog processes, vintage political art, and constructivism. It was critical to us that we were a tri-lingual campaign.

Employing our “analog” strategy online used paper textures, gradients, and digital noise to soften an otherwise harsh digital landscape.

Brand Guidelines

Manofa designed by Mariya V. Pigoulevskaya was the foundational typeface for the campaign. In it’s webform it was able to be used across English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese.

Designing for print and web meant that we had to take particular care with legibility and accessibility. We worked with the grassroots tech collective With The Ranks to develop a new tool to build progressive political websites.

Our color palette was extensive because it had to be. We need versatility and cohesion.
